FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

The Official (and editable and changing) Artisan Crafts FAQ!

What is Artisan Crafts?

An artisan or crafter is someone who is specifically skilled in creating something of a 3D nature, such as a blacksmith or leather worker. Back in the day, they apprenticed in their field and became a journeyman (terms used in today's labor union apprenticeships) when the apprenticeship was completed. After the Industrial Revolution, the Arts and Crafts Movement [link] set the stage for the term for anything handcrafted, usually for interior design.

What is Artisan Crafts on dA?

Artisan Crafts on dA refers to anything of a 3D nature that is not traditional art (painting, traditional sculpting, etc). The categories try to stick to traditional Artisan Craft media, yet have additional categories for more modern takes on the genre. Generally anything hand made that serves a function and is also seen as a work of art or has artistic elements to it.

What are the categories and what belongs in them?

The categories are as follows:

Are models of cars, animals, painted figures, or how to kits Artisan Crafts?

They are not allowed in Artisan Crafts. Artisan Crafts is a category for things made almost completely by hand, without instruction manuals and prefabricated kits, like LEGO and IKEA furnitures

Why isn’t there ‘such and such’ category?

Categories have been created to either fulfill a need to artists or to better organize the art in the gallery. At the moment I am not seeking to add a chainmaille or mosaic category. I also will not be adding a model category for model cars, planes, trains, or anything of the like.

How come my anime/video game cosplay was relocated or removed?

Either you submitted a collage that includes copyrighted character artwork or screenshots from the anime/game, which is against DA copyright policy.

Or the costume (the textile work) can't be seen on the photo cause of the pose or it’s more of a portrait or the costume weren't made by you (either bought and assembled / someone else made it)

This costume gallery is NOT about the character, or the pose, or the place where you took the photo. It is about the crafting of the costume. Please read this informative article [link]

If my mom/dad/cousin/someone I contracted made this art, but it is my design, can I still put it in AC?

No. Not unless you had some definite part in MAKING the object, please do not place it here. The point of AC is the ART that YOU make.

If anyone can think of something I've forgotton, please NOTE me. Feedback is appreciated, so if you read this please let me know what you think.
