CALLING ALL ARTISANS!

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 24, 2007, 8:30 AM

Calling all artisans!

Hey all!

As you may or may not know, ^dedredhed and I are the Gallery Directors for Artisan Crafts, and we are the ones you turn to for concerns, questions, DD suggestions, ideas for improvements, contests - well, anything concerning the Artisan Crafts gallery.

I thought this could become the place where we could start a discussion on how to make the Artisan Crafts Community thrive, how we togheter can help spotlight artisans on dA and where you can share your ideas and ask questions.

I want to get as many artisans involved as possible, so please spread the word to friends and watchers by linking to this journal.

To list to the left in this journal you have some very handy links, on how to suggest a DD, report miscats and links to the AC forum, news and gallery and more. Make sure to check them out!

Also, if you want to be updated on news regarding the AC gallery and other events on dA, a good idea to add ^dedredhed and I to your devwatch.

This journal will be updated with different versions, depending on the topic.

Project: EDUCATE!

Project: EDUCATE is an initiative from the Artists Relations team to build gallery knowledge, raise community awareness, promote interaction, and most importantly share information.

In addition to the site wide activities, in the coming months you will find the spotlight on different galleries around deviantART. A week long focus on the genre, with fun, info, contests, and a Chat with the Gallery Director(s), where you can ask questions, give input and get involved!

What would YOU like to see happen during Artisan Crafts week? I’d love to get some suggestions for this!

Some suggestions:

• Artisan Crafts thumbshare with critique
• Events in #ArtisanCrafts
• 'Report the Most Miscats'-contest
• Organized discussion on the AC forums about what the AC community would like to see happen/improved in the future with AC
• set of articles, on 'The Best Of ___" such as Culinary Arts, Woodworking, Papercraft, throughout the week by =feetpeet
• Education about miscats
• Education about how to photography your craft (anyone interessted in doing a tutorail covering most areas?)
• Different small contests and other events

What would YOU like to see happen during Artisan Crafts week?

Definitely a meet and greet with you and Jen as the stars. Also an artisan crafts thumbshare where people can show their artwork in an organized manner, and maybe get some critique done on their artwork as well. I think some organized discussion on the AC forums about what the AC community would like to see happen in the future with AC, and how they think AC could be improved in the future, what AC would be like on dA in the future, etc. Maybe some small contests on the AC forum, say like, "Report the Most Miscats and win!", and give a prize to whoever can report the most correct miscats in any particular amount of time. These could be held on the forums.

Just some general ideas for you and Jen to think about ;)

When is the AC week?

I really like Brennen's idea, I think the meet and greet is a great idea and it can be followed up by a critique with some giveaways to get the people to come and give their thoughts even if they are not an artisan.
Also, a set of articles, on 'The Best Of ___" such as Culinary Arts, Woodworking, Papercraft, throughout the week.

thanx for the +friend myana. Keep making beautiful woodwork. honestly, It's wonderful to see a pretty lady that can handle a saw and router. most guys I know can't (including some carpenters I know), which makes it all the more amazing and wonderful !

Part of the problem with AC is that they rarely look as good in the photos than when you can pick them up and play with them!

So in AC week how about running a gallery of deviants 'using' (eating/wearing/otherwise employing) their deviations, or if it's not a functional piece, take a photo of themselves making it! Even a tutorial-type storyboard of how a deviation was made! I think that could really get people interested in how ACs are created and used in the 'real' world...

I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one...

those are really great ideas, and some of them I've already thought of (thumb critique and report miscat-contest)
Thank you for sharing!

låter toppen! Det är alltid nyttigt med flera som tycker till vid en 'critique-session' och det kan vara ännu nyttigare att ha nån som inte pysslar med hantverk utan ser det mer utifrån.

There is no date set yet, and it'll probably take a while before we can have one (there are other galleries in line first). yeah, I liked brennen's ideas too, great to get some discussion about this!

That's a great idea for an article serie, maybe this is something you'd be interested doing?

I would be interested in putting together the journals, sure! Would you want them done for the week or just done for whenever?
